Our time with you is very short especially considering the length
of your martial arts career. We realize your time is valueable as well is ours.
This is not a fraternity where you will have to dance and sing "I'm a Little
Tea Cup" to amuse the brothers. Where other fraternities may find this
entertaining we simply don't have the time for this type of tom-foolery. The
nature of our activities is dangerous to the degree that any attempts to pre-screen
potential members needs to be focused primarily on safety issues. The candidate
process is just that a process with which we can evaluate each other so that
the safety and quality of our workouts is maintained.
Step 1 - Inquirer
The Inquirer phase is just that - an oppurtunity to learn more about us.
You are fullfilling the requirement process just by reading this section of
our website. To become a Candidate you must attend an informational meeting
and fill out a membership application form.
Step 2 - Candidate
Once we receive your completed membership application form you are ready
for consideration as a brother. You must attended weekly Candidate sessions.
The Senior VP with assistance will run these weekly sessions; they are friendly
and knowledgable in the skills needed in order to join the fraternity. They
will do their best to work with you and help you train. Attendence of these
Candidate sessions is of paramount importance. It is difficult to learn if
you do not show up. It is impossible to join Mu Alpha Xi if you do not go
to these sessions.
The Candidate process generally takes 5-7 weeks, although it can be longer
or shorter depending on circumstances. During this time you will work out
exclusiveley with those who are also going through the Candidate process.
Once the Senior VP deems the Candidates ready, Initiation will be scheduled.
Initiation is when the Candidates demonstrate their skills for the entire
fraternity, proving they can work out safely and effectively. After the demonstrations,
a council of brothers will then be called. This council will ultimately decide
whether or not each individual Candidate will be initiated as a brother.
Step 3 - Brother
If a Candidate passes Initiation they will be considered
a brother in Mu Alpha Xi, with all the responsibilites and privileges
thereof.
